PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
